At WH Thompson & Son, we are strong believers in the benefits of natural stone. For nearly 70 years we have been supplying natural quarry products for the construction industry from our quarry in Dumbarton, as well as providing landfill and waste disposal services.
As well as providing a functional use, natural stone can also be used aesthetically and can become a beautiful and intrinsic part of interior design. Here are just some of the benefits of using natural stone in your home.
It’s a Very Durable Material
One of the main benefits of natural stone is its durability. This durability is thanks to its geological makeup, having been compressed within the earth for thousands upon thousands of years.
This durability means that natural stone is a great choice for flooring and kitchen countertops, as the material is able to defend itself against continuous use over a period of many years.
It’s Easy to Maintain
As well as its longevity, natural stone is very easy to maintain. In comparison to carpets, spills and stains are easy to clean. All it takes to clear up a spillage is a bit of warm water and some soap. If you clean your stone floors on a regular basis, then they will keep their shine for years.
There are also plenty of sealing products on the market which provide an additional barrier against stains. Once installed, keeping stone floors and countertops in good nick is far less labour intensive than other materials.
It’s Sustainable
If you want to make sure that your home is environmentally friendly, using natural stone instead of synthetic products can help you achieve that goal. Natural stone is, as the name suggests, a naturally occurring material. It has a long lifeline, so you’ll replace it less often, and it’s also energy efficient as the heat transfer associated with stone is much lower than most other materials.
It Looks Great!
As well as all of these functional benefits, natural stone simply looks great. The material works well as part of traditional or more modern interior designs. The variety of colours, textures and finishes means that natural stone rarely ever goes out of fashion, too.
