Whether you’re a DIY enthusiast or a professional tradesperson, plant hire is an extremely useful service that enables you to complete any type of project on time. Hiring the equipment you need allows you to meet your deadlines and get everything done to a professional standard.

Plant hire is usually divided into four main categories: earth-moving equipment, material handling, construction equipment and construction vehicles. There are a wide range of machines that fall under these categories and that are available for hire, but here are the most commonly used and most useful:

Excavators

Excavators are an extremely popular machine used by both domestic and commercial builders. They come in large and mini sizes and involve a long bucket arm that’s attached to a pivoting cab, which rotates 360 degrees. Excavators are extremely versatile, capable of digging trenches, moving large objects, mining, rail construction, demolition, landscaping and site grading.

Bulldozers

One of the most strong and reliable machines, bulldozers are powerful pieces of equipment used to move dirt, soil, rubble, debris and sand along large open tracts of land. They’re also capable of crushing large boulders and stones. The ripper at the back breaks up material, whilst the blade a the front moves it out of the way. Bulldozers mean that excess rubbish doesn’t buildup on-site and are also used to prepare ground for construction work.

Forklifts

Forklifts are necessary for lifting heavy crates, pallets, bags of sand and concrete, or pretty much anything you may need on a construction site. When hiring a forklift, it’s essential to consider how high you’ll need to lift your material and how much it’ll weigh. Your plant hire company will help you to find a forklift with the appropriate capacity.

Backhoe loaders

A backhoe loader is much like a tractor, but with an adjustable shovel at the front and small bucket at the back for digging. They are ideal for smaller projects where space is limited, and are also extremely versatile- they can move dirt, dig trenches, place pipes and back-fill.

Dumpers

A dumper does what it says on the tin; it can pick up and dump a large amount of dirt, soil or similar material to another spot on site. There are a number of options available, including large dumpers, tilt trucks and trailers, so it generally depends on how much stuff you need to shift and the space you need to navigate.
